How To Finalize an Paper-Based Exam Appointment (Includes Online+Paper and Paper)
IMPORTANT: Exam appointments should be finalized in UNC Online on the same day as the appointment, immediately following the completion of the exam appointment.
To finalize a Paper-Based Exam Appointment please use the following steps:
- Log into UNC Online
- Go to "Appointments"
- Click on "List View"
- Select "Un-Finalized" from drop down. You can also search by the student's name, email, etc.
- Click "Search"
- To open the un-finalized appointment, click on the "Down Arrow"
- Click "Finalize"
- Select the radio button that best describes the exam appointment
- NOTE: If the exam is Online+Paper or Paper be sure to "Upload" the completed paper portion of the exam. Although sub-optimal, paper based exams can also be faxed to the number provided by the instructor.
- Click "Finalize Appointment"

Detailed How To Steps: Finalizing Different Types of Issues with the Exam Appointment
Student Completed the Exam - No Issues
If the student completed the exam with no issues:
- Select "Student Completed Exam Without Any Issues"
- NOTE: If the exam is Online+Paper or Paper be sure to "Upload" the completed paper portion of the exam. Although sub-optimal, paper based exams can also be faxed to the number provided by the instructor.
- Click "Finalize Appointment"
Student Misses Their Exam Appointment
If a student misses their exam appointment:
- Select "Student Did Not Show Up" or "Appointment Was Cancelled"
- Click "Finalize Appointment"
- NOTE: The student cannot reschedule their exam appointment in UNC Online until the original appointment is finalize.
Academic Integrity and/or Professional Conduct
If an Issue of Academic Integrity is suspected or Unprofessional Conduct occurred then please finalize the appointment as follows:
- Select "Student showed up but there were issues"
- Select "Yes" as the answer to "Do you suspect this student cheated?"
- For academic integrity issues, select the appropriate reason, describe the incident and click "Finalize Appointment."
- For unprofessional conduct, select "Other," describe the incident and click "Finalize Appointment."
- Select either "Yes" or "No" to the question, "Were there any other irregularities during the exam?" If you selected "Yes" then please see below "Technical Issues Prevent Exam Appointment."
- NOTE: If the exam is Online+Paper or Paper be sure to "Upload" the completed paper portion of the exam. Although sub-optimal, paper based exams can also be faxed to the number provided by the instructor.
- Click "Finalize Appointment"

Technical Issues Prevent Exam Appointment
- If technical issues occur before the student starts the exam then finalize the appointment as "Appointment was Cancelled." This will allow the student to reschedule in UNC Online. NOTE: If the password does not work or is not included in exam instructions then the proctor should "Finalize" the appointment as "Appointment was cancelled." This will allow the student to reschedule. Do NOT proctor exam appointments, where the password is in the "Notes for Proctors" section of UNC Online. *With the roll out of the new user interface, students will actually be prevented from starting their exam appointment in UNC Online, for instances where the instructor has not provided the exam password in the correct location. In UNC Online, the instructor is required to enter the exam password in a specific location (not in the "Notes for Proctors" field).
- If technical issues occur during the exam appointment, that prevents the student from finishing the exam take the following steps:
- Select "Student showed up but there were issues"
- Select "No" as the answer to, "Do you suspect this student cheated?"
- Select "Yes" as the answer to, "Were there any other irregularities during the exam?"
- Describe the irregularities.
- Select "No" as the answer "In your opinion, did the student get a fair chance to take the exam?"
- Click "Finalize Appointment." This will allow the student to reschedule in UNC Online.
- If technical issues occur during the exam appointment, that do not prevent the student from finishing the exam then take the following steps:
- Select "Student showed up but there were issues"
- Select "No" as the answer to, "Do you suspect this student cheated?"
- Select "Yes" as the answer to, "Were there any other irregularities during the exam?"
- Describe the irregularities.
- Select "Yes" as the answer "In your opinion, did the student get a fair chance to take the exam?"
- NOTE: If the exam is Online+Paper or Paper be sure to "Upload" the completed paper portion of the exam.
- Click "Finalize Appointment." NOTE: This signals to the instructor that the student completed the exam, despite technical issues.
