ON THE DAY OF YOUR EXAM APPOINTMENT

On the day of your exam appointment and no more than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment:
- Log into UNC Online
- Navigate to the exam appointment
- Start Exam Now: In UNC Online, on the date, time, and time zone of your exam appointment, click ‘Start Exam Now.’ This will route you to Examity. NOTE: The time zone of your appointment defaults to the time zone of the device you used when you scheduled your appointment.
- Examity - Authentication Process and Start Exam: In Examity, select the ‘Start Exam’ tab. Click on ‘Connect to Proctoring’ to initiate their exam appointment. First time users of Examity will create their profile before starting the exam. Returning students will simply click ‘Connect to Proctoring’ and will begin the Zoom set up process to be connected to the Examity proctor.

- EXAMITY PROFILE: The FIRST TIME you use the WebCam Proctor (Examity), you will be prompted to set up your profile. My Profile: To create your profile, click the, “My Profile” tab on your Examity dashboard.

- Time Zone and Phone Number: Once on the “My Profile” page, click the “Edit” button under the “Account Information” tab. Add your phone number and review the time zone you selected when you created your exam appointment in UNC Online. Click the “Save” button.
- Computer Requirements Check: Click on "Computer Requirements Check" to ensure your computer and wifi meet the necessary requirements. For more information about computer/system requirements, click here.
- Connecting to a Proctor: On the Examity dashboard, click on the "Start Exam" tab and click 'Begin Scheduled Exam.' Next, click on "Connect to Proctoring" to begin the verification process. NOTE: Disable your pop-up blocker if necessary.
- Video Conferencing Software: Examity uses two types of video conferencing software (GoToMeeting or Zoom) to allow for you to meet virtually with your Examity proctor. You will be prompted to use either GoToMeeting or Zoom.
- GoToMeeting: If the GoToMeeting pop-up box appears, click on 'Open GoTo Opener.' NOTE: Your screen will indicate 'Connecting to GoToMeeting.'
- When the application opens your screen will indicate 'The meeting is starting.'
- Unmute: Once connected to GoToMeeting, a pop-up box will appear, asking you to unmute.
- Share WebCam: Click 'Share My WebCam.'
- Share Screen: Click 'Share' to share your screen. REMEMBER: The time for your exam DOES NOT begin until after you complete the authentication process and the exam has been opened, via the password, by the proctor. To learn more, click here.
- Zoom: It is possible that Examity may ask you to use Zoom instead of GoToMeeting. This is especially true if you are having technical issues and Examity is helping you resolve them.
- If you have never used Zoom then you will be prompted to select, “Download and Run Zoom.” If you have used Zoom previously, then it should launch automatically.
- Launch Zoom: Once the Zoom installation is complete, click the hyperlink “Click Here” to launch Zoom.
- Join with Computer Audio: Join the Zoom meeting with the Examity proctor by selecting, “Join with Computer Audio.”
- Start Video: Select “Start Your Video” to begin the virtual meeting and the proctoring session with the Examity proctor. - Speed Test: If there is a significant lag or pixelated webcam or audio then the Examity proctor will perform a speed test in order to determine issues with the student’s connection due to internet/bandwidth. NOTE: The speed test could potentially be performed anytime during the process if there is significant lag/delay. Most commonly, the speed test is performed during the set-up process, after the student and Examity proctor connect and before the authentication process begins.
- Authentication Process: After successfully launching into the proctoring session (via GoToMeeting or Zoom), the Examity proctor will initiate the authentication process. This includes exam rules, a 360° room pan and a desk sweep to make sure no unauthorized materials are present, and then a request for remote access to enter the password. To learn more, click here.
- Exam Instructions: The Examity proctor will read the exam instructions to you, and the proctor will ask for your assent after the instructions are read.
- Exam Link: When the Examity proctor asks, navigate to the Exam via the exam link in the University LMS (Canvas, Blackboard, PeopleSoft, etc.). The instructor has already shared this information with you via the LMS, syllabus, etc. NOTE: For questions about the location of the exam link, please contact the instructor directly.
- Multi-Factor Authentication: Some students will be required to use Multi-Factor Authentication in order to access the University LMS.
- Grant Permission: The Examity proctor is the only one authorized to enter the exam password. Click on “Grant Permission” to grant the Examity proctor permission to remote into your computer and enter the exam password. Students never see the password and are not authorized to enter the exam password themselves. For more information, click here.

- Taking the Exam: You take the exam in the University LMS (i.e., Canvas, Blackboard, PeopleSoft, etc).
- EXAM SECURITY PROTOCOLS: Please be aware, it is possible that the Examity proctor MAY stop you during your exam and ask you to perform a room scan, ask you questions, etc. This is a security precaution Examity proctors must follow, based on alerts on the Examity side. This does NOT mean that you are in trouble, but it DOES mean an alert was triggered on the Examity side, which caused the proctor to need to perform security protocols. Your patience and compliance is appreciated and required if this happens.
- Submit Exam: Exam is submitted to the instructor via the LMS (i.e., Canvas, Blackboard, PeopleSoft, etc).
