Close and Constant Supervision
Close and constant exam supervision requires the proctor to oversee the student's exam appointment from beginning to end, at the exclusion of all other activities. Over 60% of our available proctors can provide close and constant exam supervision.
Some proctors are not able to provide this level of service. For example, libraries cannot provide close and constant exam supervision. In fact, as a matter of policy, UNC Online does not allow libraries to offer close and constant exam supervision. This policy is in place because a library’s main responsibility is to its patrons. Therefore, library staff are not able to absolutely monitor a student’s exam from beginning to end.
The issue students face is not that there aren't proctors available. Rather, proctors who provide this level of exam supervision often charge a proctoring fee. To help mitigate cost, UNC Online implemented a fee policy that proctors are required to follow - max hourly fee ($15) and max flat fee ($45). In addition, UNC Online negotiated a favorable rate with the new WebCam Proctor (Examity) - $11 for the first hour, $6 per additional hour.
NOTE: When students register for UNC Online courses, an alert about proctoring fees is posted by the campus - this is a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requirement.
