Close and Constant Exam Supervision
Close and constant exam supervision requires the proctor to oversee the exam from beginning to end, at the exclusion of all other activities. Roughly 60% of our available proctors can provide close and constant exam supervision.
Some proctors are not able to provide this level of service. For example, libraries cannot provide close and constant exam supervision. In addition, and as a matter of policy, UNC Online does not allow libraries to offer close and constant exam supervision. This policy is in place because a library’s main responsibility is to its patrons. Therefore, library staff are not able to absolutely monitor a student’s exam from beginning to end.
The issue students are facing is not that there aren't proctors available. Rather, proctors who provide this level of exam supervision often charge a proctoring fee. Students, naturally, prefer a free proctor. That said, when students register for UNC Online courses, an alert about proctoring fees is posted by the campus - this is a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requirement.
Please be aware close and constant exam supervision cannot be changed once an exam has been set up – it is completely at your discretion whether to utilize this feature or not. UNC Online encourages the use of this feature, as it helps to ensure academic integrity.
